Nearly 400 people participated in the Christie Foundation’s first-ever Planting the Seeds Scholarship Ceremony and Dinner Gala on May 31, 2013 at the iHotel & Conference Center in Champaign. Over 60 students were awarded scholarships at the event to pursue their studies in medicine for the 2013-2014 school year. A gala dinner followed the ceremony, and nearly 200 guests celebrated the Foundation’s programs and successes. The evening featured the poignant words of long-time scholarship winner and breast cancer researcher, Dr. Shwayta Kukreti, and the deeply moving story of Will Harlan, and ultra-runner and organic farmer who was inspired by the lives of the Tarahumara Indians in southwest Mexico.
