Christie Foundation to Host Runners’ Symposium on February 18

On February 18 the Christie Foundation will host its 1st Annual Runners’ Symposium at Christie on Windsor (1801 W. Windsor Road, Champaign) in the Education Room on the second floor. Presentations will be from 11AM to 2PM. Registration is open to the public and aimed at current and hopeful runners, especially those planning or wanting to participate in the upcoming Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon on April 27-28, 2012.

Symposium presenters include nationally known board certified Cardiologist Dr. Abraham Kocheril, M.D. who will speak on the “The Runner’s Heart”. Dr. Denis Williams, M.D., a board certified Orthopaedic surgeon, will address common overuse injuries and their treatment and prevention. Dr. Andrew Kluesner, DPM is a podiatrist who will discuss the runner’s foot and ankle. From Christie Clinic’s Obstetrics/Gynecology Department, Dr. Mildred Nelson, M.D. will talk about “Aquatic Cross Training for Runners”. Dr. Nelson has run in several half marathons.

Dr. Nathan Walker, M.D. will discuss “Nutrition for Peak Performance”. Dr. Walker, a competitive runner himself, has been a long-time champion of the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon and strongly involved in the fight against obesity. His nutritional insight provides real answers to hard questions on runner’s special dietary needs.

Dr. Jeremy Youse, M.D. is a dermatologist who will address “Butts, Nipples, and Toes: A Racy Discussion of Runner’s Skin Issues”. Dr. Youse treats acne, hives, rashes, skin cancers and will provide participants with down to earth, yet humorous answers to questions many are too embarrassed to ask.Presentations, Break-out Sessions, Q & A, Light Lunch
