Runners’ Symposium Scheduled for February

The Christie Foundation is pleased to present the 7th Annual Runners’ Symposium on Saturday, February 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the I Hotel. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. The two-hour symposium is sponsored by the Christie Foundation, the charitable arm of Christie Clinic.

The symposium was developed to educate runners planning to compete in the upcoming Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon on April 25-27.

Attendees will learn race and training tips from Christie Clinic providers from the departments of orthopedics and physical therapy.

This year’s symposium featured speaker will be American distance runner and three-time Olympian, Craig Virgin. Raised on a family farm near Lebanon, Illinois, Craig was born with a life threatening congenital urological disease that led to a childhood of surgeries, doctors and tremendous pain. After receiving a reconstructive surgery in the 8th grade that gave him the ability to physically function normally, Craig began his running career his freshman year of high school. Despite being diagnosed with a life-threatening disability, Craig discovered he had a talent for running and went on to become the only American male to be on three Olympic teams in the 10,000 meters and the only American male to win the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, twice.
