Runners’ Symposium Scheduled for February

The Christie Foundation is pleased to present the 3rd Annual Runner’s Symposium on Saturday, February 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. The two-hour symposium is sponsored by the Christie Foundation, the charitable arm of Christie Clinic.

The symposium was developed to educate runners planning to compete in the upcoming Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon on April 25, 26, and 27th.

This years’ symposium featured speaker will be John “The Penguin” Bingham who will entertain the audience with humorous tactics on  how to stay focused and motived while running.  John is an author, comic, and spokesperson for the slow-running movement,  while  encouraging  people from all walks of life to take  up running to improve their health.  He is known for  his popular column, The Penguin Chronicles, in “Runner’s World.”  Today, he is featured in “Competitor” magazine.  John has written several books, including his memoir “An Accidental Athlete.”

Medical Professionals will provide panel discussions and answer questions on the participants’ hot topics.   The panelists for this event are all seasoned runners: Podiatrist Dr. Andrew Kluesner, Sports Medicine Specialist Dr. Scott Paluska, Gastroenterologist Dr. Claudia Nugent and Physical Therapist and three-time 10K winner at the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon Rachel Zubricky.  “Ask the Experts Booths” will be manned by: Runners and Internists, Dr. Nathan Walker and Dr. Sumuk Sundaram, Registered Nutritionist Debra D’Angelo, Physical Therapist Rick Jean, and Executive Director of the Stephens Family YMCA Mark Johnson.
